Hello and welcome to The Compassion in Therapy blog, where we will delve into mental health, focusing on trauma, chronic illness, identity questions, depression, and anxiety. My aim is to share information and insights that can make complex topics a little easier to digest.
My name is Clodagh McGrath. I am from Co. Kildare, Ireland, but I currently live in Spain. I hold a B.A. Hons in Counselling & Psychotherapy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Trauma Studies, specialising in supporting individuals dealing with PTS (Post-Traumatic Stress), chronic illness, and identity questions. FYI, I firmly believe that people are not disordered.
I began my studies in 2015 with a taster course in psychoanalytic studies, which quickly led me to a degree program for counselling and psychotherapy; I was hooked. I transitioned from in-person clients to online private practice during the pandemic, and I have never gone back, as online practice has allowed me to extend my services to more people across Ireland, the UK and Europe, making therapy accessible to those in remote or undeserved areas, especially those in the expat communities who may not have access to therapists in their native language.
My therapeutic approach integrates talk therapy with EMDR and includes holistic methods that consider both body and mind. I’m also a Level 2 Reiki initiate, soon to pursue my Reiki Master certification. I completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Peru earlier this year, which I intend to bring into my work soon. I offer individual talk therapy sessions and EMDR, as well as intensive EMDR sessions. I also run a monthly online support group on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm Irish time for those living with chronic illness and pain.
I host “The Trauma & Healing Podcast” and co-host “The Plainly Queer Podcast” with my friend Paul O’Beirne. The Trauma & Healing Podcast features conversations with people who have experienced trauma and professionals in various healing disciplines, exploring the diverse paths to recovery. While over at The Plainly Queer podcast focuses on all things queer, from history, to mental health and everything in between.
In 2022, I founded My 10 Minutes, a wellness website inspired by a mindfulness challenge that demonstrated how just 10 minutes could significantly impact well-being. My 10 Minutes offers blogs, guided resources, and tools to help you find and cherish those brief moments of calm in your busy life, promoting mental and physical nourishment without the stress of lengthy routines. You can check it out at www.my10minutes.ie
Here, I will share resources and articles on topics crucial for understanding mental health. I want to empower folks to take back their power in minding their mental health and understanding how we are “human ‘and the many reasons why we might act, feel, behave or think in certain ways. My aim is to help you understand yourself with kindness and compassion and provide tools that will help meet you where you’re at in your life. You can check out the first blog post, Understanding and Managing Your Triggers: A Compassionate Guide, which includes a free downloadable PDF.
I hope this blog will help you feel more connected and informed, empowering you to take charge of your healing process. I look forward to building a community where we can learn and grow together. If you have any topics you’d like to recommend in order to learn more about or simply wish to say hello, please do not hesitate to reach out. My email info@clodaghmcgrath.com. Finally, I offer a free 20-minute consultation if you want to explore and see if therapy will help you in your next steps.
Take care,
Clodagh
